The Breaking Pattern revitalise emo rock on spectacular new album, ‘There Are Roadmaps In Our Veins’

Here are some debutants that rock…

The face of the Phoenix emo revival movement’ – The Huffington Post

Arizona indie rock group, The Breaking Pattern, are bringing a fresh new sound to the emo scene on their debut album There Are Roadmaps In Our Veins. Anthemic vocals and reverb-soaked guitars make for a euphoric and equally lovelorn summery sound.

The band cite emo and pop-punk acts such as Real Friends, The Wonder Years, Man Overboard and The Hotelier as influences. Fellow Arizona indie rockers Lydia have offered the band much support, their guitarist Justin Camacho even co-writing songs with the band in the past.

The album lyrically tackles the hurdles of a failing relationship. The band’s frontman explains: ‘The album is somewhat of a break-up album, chronicling the various stages of a doomed relationship from the moments leading up to the split until the resolution and recovery. I say “somewhat” because it is not a concept album. The songs do not tell one specific story, but are a compilation of personal experience and the stories I’ve witnessed from friends who had their own hearts disintegrated into red dust.

Producer Cory Spotts engineers the record, having worked with other esteemed Arizona acts including The Maine, The Summer Set, BlessTheFall and Job for a Cowboy.

Within the first few months of their formation, the band opened for celebrated acts such as Emarosa, This Century, Weatherbox and The Rocket Summer. They have since sold out multiple shows.

Vocalist Derek Hackman previously fronted a band called Ezer. Having long had a passion for music, he began writing songs aged 11. Moving house frequently as a child, Derek dealt with long periods of social isolation that fuelled his songwriting. The first time he ever sang live was at his high school graduation – in front of 6000 people. He was so nervous he vomited in the bathroom only minutes prior to going up on stage.

Derek is also a published poet and has a degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology.

Making up the band’s other members include drummer Brandon (who also handles a lot of the photography), guitarist Nick (who happens to also be an award-winning coffee roaster) and bassist Jacob (who is Columbian and fluent in Spanish).

A promo video for the album’s opening track ‘Let Love go’ is available here: https://youtu.be/c3mzFSMi22w

There Are Roadmaps In Our Veins is out April 8th.

Jazz Musician With Brand New Album Release – Encemble

In a change from his normal writing technique, Neil C. Young built this album around melodies to create the harmony, in turn creating layers for the unconventional line-up of a baritone saxophone, bass clarinet, bass guitar, trumpets, and two drum kits. The results are outstanding – a shining example of the much maligned jazz genre on crowd pleasing form.

Capture

It’s easy to see from his social feeds that Neil C. Young is unaffected by the growing hype surrounding his music. Witty and down to earth, he often pokes fun at himself and clearly enjoys simply making music. He is also fully aware of the raised eyebrows caused by his name – shared with one of the best loved songwriters in the world over the last five decades. The similarity has led to crossed wires on many occasions; in one case of mistaken identity, a festival promoter looking to book Neil C. Young received an e-mail from the agent of the other Neil Young, who claimed the jazz musician was an imposter.

So, just to make it clear – Neil C. Young, jazz musician, is ready for the September 7th release of his excellent new album ‘Encemble’.

Brand New Album From The Machismo’s Is A Rise From The Ashes

The Machismo’s originally formed in 1995 by Sam Marsh after cult 90’s grunge band Jacob’s Mouse split up. Jacob’s Mouse had risen to prominence in 1990 supporting the likes of Nirvana before they broke big, and were recently chosen to represent  the letter ‘J’  in a documentary on DJ John Peels enormous record collection.

At the time The Machismo’s were voted in the NME as one of the ‘band’s to watch’ that year, and were given an NME single of the week for ‘ My Narghile’, which was also playlisted on BBC Radio 1. The future looked bright…

However, as is often the case outside influences led to a lengthy break from the industry. But now The Machismo’s are back in business ‘putting the punk back into indie’ whilst conforming to a Taoist lifestyle of peace, love, veganism, qi gong and yoga! It makes for a stark and compelling contrast, with elements of Ty Seagall, Connan Mockasin, Alt-J as well as spikier, punchier moments akin to Royal Blood or Thee Oh Sees.

The new album, subtly titled ‘Britpop Fucked My Wife’ after the bands perceived ‘kick in the teeth’ by Britpop’s lad culture in the mid 90’s, has roots stretching back 18 years, before drugs and depression put a halt to one of Indie’s most promising trio’s. But now, reinvigorated and refreshed, The Machismo’s are back to their best with a planned future tour and more new music than ever before. There is an immediacy to their brand of rock that simply just isn’t out there anymore, and it deserves to be celebrated.

For proof, here is the powerfully pounding single ‘My Narghile’ (which is a Greek hash pipe- not something the band wishes to encourage the use of anymore!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WN4jgoSEl4c&feature=youtu.be

More experienced this time round, The Machismo’s are determined to make their way forward with their unique brand of in your face experimental indie pop, coupled with mellower songs of peace and positivity. The name itself is something of an ironic reaction to the masculinity inherent in the music business, and indeed the world, and the band want to challenge this kind of behaviour in the laudable belief that it is time women should take control of everything, to make the world a better place.

A true one-off in a music industry of copycats, The Machismo’s have overcome many personal battles and demons to return to the stage stronger and better than ever.

Single ‘My Narghile’ will be out Feb 23rd as a digital download, with album following March 3rd on 12″ vinyl and download, on Machismo’s Records.

Noel and the Pandas Release New Single ‘Wondering Love’

2nd Single Press Image

An eclectic Indie rock band from Italy, Noel and the Pandas are exciting group add a variety of ideas to their rock roots. Their debut album ‘In the Art of Doom’ sees them on sparkling form, and the latest single is no exception. With great electronic touches and even a jazz feel thanks to a beautifully lonely sounding trumpet melody, the song’s gradual build then transforms it into a thumping anthem for the close, making it one of the very best on an excellent album.

You can hear the song, ‘Wondering Love’, here:

Produced by guitarist Nicola Rosti, the debut album marked them out as the hottest new alternative rock sound to emerge from Italy, and that’s a reputation that is only likely to grow with singles like this.

The lyrics, written by band founder Noel, are a typically wistful reflection on his own history. His is a story of riches to rags, and after a promising career as a banker was ended overnight, he has picked himself back up from a life of destitution using nothing but his music and the experiences he has to write about. The power of music to move and transform those who make and hear it is often underestimated, but Noel is living proof that – with enough talent and determination – it’s possible to come back from the brink.

‘Wondering Love’ is released on March 2nd.

Super Talented Teen Shane Thomas Due to Release New Single Mrs Matisse 10th December

SHANE THOMAS01

Okay so this little talent isn’t strictly relevant to guitars, but we’re just too impressed with the guy to miss the opportunity to shout about him!

Formerly dubbed ‘Britain’s Mozart’, Shane Thomas is quite possibly the most talented teenager across the British music industry.

New single, ‘Mrs Matisee’ is to be released 10th December, prior to the release of his debut album, ‘From Me To You’, due for release soon after.

‘Mrs Matisee’ showcases Shane’s incredible talent and beautifully demonstrates the amazing capabilities of this young composer. The tack in undeniably stunning and transpires audiences into the fascinating world of Shane Thomas.

Shane was inspired to write the track earlier this year when he saw a painting by Henri Matisse. He was so taken with the beauty of the painting that he decided to compose a piece of music about it. Shortly after writing the track Shane discovered that Debussy had been inspired by the very same painting and produced a well known piece of music called, Arabesque.

Shane began playing the piano at the tender age of seven and has since taken on the challenge of mastering the art of the cello and percussion.  Shane dreams up all of his music. He has never sat at a piano to compose anything. He does it all in his head, then later sits to play the piece. He can immediately play any melody or song he hears.

Aged ten, Shane was the youngest person in history to be signed to a music publisher, E.M.I. music.

Bristol Folk band ‘Apple of My Eye’ are set to sail folk scene with new album ‘Seven Tides’

P1030725 edited

Soo maybe not heavy on the guitar, but we still absolutely love these guys!

Contemporary folk band, ‘Apple Of My Eye’ announce release of new album ‘Seven Tides’, due out 1st December.  Beautifully arranged epic songs in a unique twist on classic folk themes.

Now living in London, the majority of the band hail from the historic maritime city of Bristol and their songs draw inspiration from both cities and from the sea, a theme that runs throughout their second album. Their engaging storytelling style and four part harmonies explore tales of love, loss, adventure and ruin.

The album was recorded at Cowshed Studios and engineered by the hugely respected folk and jazz engineer Joe Leach. They decided to record the entire thing on 2 inch, 24 track analogue recording tape to give a warmer and richer sound than digital techniques.

Having spent the summer performing at some of the most exciting festivals in the UK, including, Tall Ships Festival Greenwich, Secret Garden Party, Wilderness and headlining Exile festival in Sheffield, the band are flourishing into an exciting folk force, not to be missed.

The band describe their music as “brand new old songs” and collectively generate all their own material drawing on personal experiences and carefully arranging the music on the guitar, bouzouki, violin, double bass, mandolin and harmonica.

Band member Chris Rusbridge lives on a narrow boat on the waterways of London, where often a rehearsal will turn in to a performance as passers by become a listening crowd. No London public house is safe from the spontaneous band. They are well known for bursting into song and entertaining the drinkers of London pubs.

Catch the guys live in action here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gsyM68eQux4

The band boasts an impressive hoard of musical talent:

Kit Massey (Violin) and Phil Cornwell (Bass) are both full time professional musicians. Cornwell is the musical director of West End musical “The Scotsboro Boys’’ and Massey  was formally a violinist with the Santiago Philamonia in Chile and has worked as a session musician with artists such as Emile Sande, Dizzie Rascal, Muse and Jamie Cullum. Arran Glass (Vocals and Guitar) and Alex Scott (Mandolin) are both professional Actor-Musicians and Puppeteers who perform and compose the music for a variety of theatre and television. Chris (Bouzouki), Dan (Harmonica) and Ellie Rusbridge (Vocals) are all siblings and come from a rich folk music heritage as their parents met in a folk club and still perform in their own folk band Thornbridge.

Singer-Songwriter Jessie Lowes looks to the ‘Stars’ with new single

1907653_747267308657180_1430118672708597097_n

Emotional single begins the run up to a debut album release

Available from September 22nd, ‘Stars’ is the new single from acoustic singer-songwriter Jessie Lowes. Based in Northumberland and specialising in a delicate mix of clear vocal and guitar picking, Lowes is a songwriter not afraid to wear her heart on her sleeve when it comes to her music. The single ‘Stars’ was written for her mother who passed away in 2008 from Cancer, and the song is a tribute to their close relationship:

https://soundcloud.com/jessie-lowes83/jessie-lowes-stars

It’s hard to believe that a song this delicate is the work of an ex-cage fighter and club level rugby player – the light touch and subtleties of her music covering a tougher background than most, a childhood that music played a huge part in.

It comes as little surprise to learn that Jessie grew up around music, often using it as an escape. Her Uncle Tony Raine was a famous jazz pianist working with the likes of Louis Armstrong, Julian Slade, Judy Garland and Diana Ross, and had his own TV show in the 60s called MusicBox. And it is from this solid pedigree that Lowes’ musical pedigree was borne.

And now, with further singles and an album due before the end of this year, Jessie Lowes is set to take her love affair with music to the next level.

‘Stars’ will be available from September 22nd.
