Cherry White set to precede new EP ‘Staring at the Sun’ with stylish single ‘Drifter’

Capture

Currently building a buzz with their live shows in and around London, Cherry White have now taken to the studio to record a brand new EP, ‘Staring at the Sun’. Inspired by life in London during this austerity era, surrounded by the greed of the wealthy, the tracks circle around an aspiration to reach higher and achieve their goals in the music industry and beyond.

The EP is led out of the gate by single ‘Drifter’, which will be released on June 1st, one week prior to the full EP:

‘Drifter’ to be released 1st June, followed by EP on 8th June

Engineered at Bark Studios by the excellent Brian O’Shaughnessy (Primal Scream, The Firm, My Bloody Valentine), the EP does a fantastic job of capturing the frenetic energy of a band who thrive on a live environment.

Cherry White’s live reputation was cemented at ‘Togfest’ in 2014, where their festival debut to a huge crowd was so well received they immediately sold out of albums. Having also taken to the stage at some of London’s top venues, including The Troubadour, Hope and Anchor (Islington) and Covent Garden Arts Theatre, their reputation in our fair capital is beginning to grow. Further afield, a BBC Wales live session a number of years ago proved there’s life outside the city for this eclectic group.

Go Primitive with new EP ‘100 Ways’

PRimage

Always working hard on new material, their next release sees them on rollicking form with new EP ‘100 Ways’, a five song collection inspired by the many obstacles placed in front of independent musicians. Lead single ‘Breathe in, Bleed out’ sees them on typical top form, showing Go Primitive’s rock credentials in all their glory and going all out to bust through those obstacles…

A four piece from the UK, Go Primitive are a band who specialise in contemporary rock with a unique twist, following in the footsteps of groups like Foo Fighters and Twin Atlantic while forging their very own sound. It’s an approach which is paying dividends, with previous tracks being fast-tracked onto BBC Introducing shows within a week of uploading.

That Go Primitive are associated with such names goes a long way to proving their credentials as they climb the independent music ladder. They have already supported The Subways, We Are The Ocean and others, getting a fantastic response from the big crowds along the way. This, along with the fact that they can count The Editors as fans, has given Go Primitive great confidence that they are on the right track.

Produced by Romesh Dodangoda (Kids in Glass Houses, Funeral For A Friend, Twin Atlantic, Motorhead, The Blackout, Bullet For My Valentine,  Lower Than Atlantis, Bring Me The Horizon), the EP is unsurprisingly dazzling in its depth of quality. The attention to detail that has gone into infusing these studio tracks with the energy of a live show is what will set them apart. That same attention to detail has also been extended to the excellent artwork, produced by Kids in Glass Houses front man Aled Phillips.

Five track collection due for release July 13th

Dave Fidler ready to unveil ‘Easy Gone, Easy Come’ EP

Easy Gone, Easy Come Final

With a live BBC Manchester session and a feature in national Acoustic Magazine already under his belt, Dave Fidler’s previous single ‘Taking Over’ has really started to make waves for the singer-songwriter. Easy Gone, Easy Come, is the title track from  the new EP which is set to retain Dave’s upward trajectory come June 1st.

Based in the North West, Dave Fidler is a supremely talented acoustic guitarist, whose folk style and intricate finger picking underneath a distinct vocal has the ability to warm and break your heart in equal measure. His songs spin tales we can all relate to, around themes of love, loss and birth – all themes shaped by Fidler’s own personal life over the last year or so.

Influenced by greats like Bob Dylan and Paul Simon, this is an artist with incredible potential with songs like EP track ‘Easy Gone, Easy Come’, which you can find here:

Produced by Sam Jones (Alex Turner, Corinne Bailey Rae) and John Bramwell of I Am Kloot, the EP is just the latest step in what is shaping up to be a very promising music career.

The past twelve months for Dave have been a whirlwind of recording sessions and great shows including Glastonbury Festival, Manchester’s Whisky Sessions festival and a forty date tour of the UK as main tour support to John Bramwell who describes Fidler as “absolutely brilliant”. He has also been featured several times by key tastemaker Tom Robinson of BBC Radio 6 Music.

Music is clearly a true passion for the singer-songwriter, who also runs a music school and charity alongside touring. It’s all very impressive work, and with a barge tour of the UK in the works as well as a potential prisons tour at the end of the year, it’s clear to see that Dave is approaching things in a different way.

If you’re still not convinced, we challenge you to watch his recent session for cult YouTube Channel ‘Ont’ Sofa’ without being supremely impressed:

Bristol Folk band ‘Apple of My Eye’ are set to sail folk scene with new album ‘Seven Tides’

P1030725 edited

Soo maybe not heavy on the guitar, but we still absolutely love these guys!

Contemporary folk band, ‘Apple Of My Eye’ announce release of new album ‘Seven Tides’, due out 1st December.  Beautifully arranged epic songs in a unique twist on classic folk themes.

Now living in London, the majority of the band hail from the historic maritime city of Bristol and their songs draw inspiration from both cities and from the sea, a theme that runs throughout their second album. Their engaging storytelling style and four part harmonies explore tales of love, loss, adventure and ruin.

The album was recorded at Cowshed Studios and engineered by the hugely respected folk and jazz engineer Joe Leach. They decided to record the entire thing on 2 inch, 24 track analogue recording tape to give a warmer and richer sound than digital techniques.

Having spent the summer performing at some of the most exciting festivals in the UK, including, Tall Ships Festival Greenwich, Secret Garden Party, Wilderness and headlining Exile festival in Sheffield, the band are flourishing into an exciting folk force, not to be missed.

The band describe their music as “brand new old songs” and collectively generate all their own material drawing on personal experiences and carefully arranging the music on the guitar, bouzouki, violin, double bass, mandolin and harmonica.

Band member Chris Rusbridge lives on a narrow boat on the waterways of London, where often a rehearsal will turn in to a performance as passers by become a listening crowd. No London public house is safe from the spontaneous band. They are well known for bursting into song and entertaining the drinkers of London pubs.

Catch the guys live in action here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gsyM68eQux4

The band boasts an impressive hoard of musical talent:

Kit Massey (Violin) and Phil Cornwell (Bass) are both full time professional musicians. Cornwell is the musical director of West End musical “The Scotsboro Boys’’ and Massey  was formally a violinist with the Santiago Philamonia in Chile and has worked as a session musician with artists such as Emile Sande, Dizzie Rascal, Muse and Jamie Cullum. Arran Glass (Vocals and Guitar) and Alex Scott (Mandolin) are both professional Actor-Musicians and Puppeteers who perform and compose the music for a variety of theatre and television. Chris (Bouzouki), Dan (Harmonica) and Ellie Rusbridge (Vocals) are all siblings and come from a rich folk music heritage as their parents met in a folk club and still perform in their own folk band Thornbridge.

Keep up with the guys here

Aysha Loren wants to ‘Keep It Like It Is’

Effective pop-reggae single out now, taken from ‘Back To You’ EP due July 7th

Readying herself for her first full release after a long break from the industry, Aysha Loren has released funky reggae track ‘Keep It Like It Is’ as a teaser for upcoming EP ‘Back To You’.

The single, a rhythmic blend of pop and reggae with a slice of funk for good measure, does a great job of ramping up the excitement for the EP, showcasing Aysha’s strong vocal with effective, relatable lyrics about choosing to stay ‘just friends’ with someone rather than risk it all by starting a relationship.

You can hear a preview snippet on Soundcloud:

https://soundcloud.com/ayshaloren/keep-it-like-it-is-snippet-by

An experienced artist, Aysha Loren’s family has a successful background in the music industry which led her to a support slot for huge US group Destiny’s Child on their UK tour in her early days. More recently, Aysha has shared the stage with the talented likes of John Holt, Frankie Paul, Janet Kay and Luciano. Having taken a long break in between to start a family, she fell in love with the stage again after performing at a Whitney Houston tribute concert, the start of a journey which will culminate in the EP release on July 7th.

This experience led her to writing and performing again, re-building her reputation over the last couple of years which have seen Aysha reach the finals of the National UK Open Mic Competition as well as being named as Vibes FM Record of the Week for three weeks running.

Single ‘Keep It Like It Is’ is out now, with the ‘Back To You’ EP out on July 7th.

Aussie four piece Velshur precede stunning debut EP with single ‘Spanish Sound’

Single out June 6th, soon to be followed by self titled debut EP and EU/UK tour

A combination of funk rock, pop and soul, four piece Velshur are set to explode onto British shores this summer. Having just been to the UK and EU for some debut shows, they are now set for their first international release and will be returning to the UK and E.U in September!

One of the hardest working bands on the Australian circuit, a combination of residencies and touring saw them play 96 gigs over the four months of the Aussie snow season, very quickly building their fanbase and a reputation for performing their brand of soul warming funk rock. They are most often compared to Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Dandy Warhols and The Strokes.

In the months since, the band have been working equally hard to put together their first 4 track EP, to be introduced in early June with the debut single ‘Spanish Sound’.

Listen to hear the track here: https://soundcloud.com/velshur/spanishsound

Watch the video trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AplXvhl9d2g

The track is a bombastic, slow build funk rock song with solid rhythms, basslines and guitar riffs that work together to support a rasping rock vocal. It’s all wrapped around a huge, hooky chorus that leaves little wonder as to why Velshur delighted hundreds of fans night after night during their Winter residencies.

The single and EP were put together under the watchful dials of Grammy nominated engineer Blake Eiseman, who has worked with the likes of James Brown to Beyonce, Justin Beiber, Pink to Pearl Jam and a number of other big-name artists, with initial production help from Nicholas Wilson, who has recently worked with Wolfmother and toured with Seasick Steve and John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin . Once it’s out fans around the globe will undoubtedly be tuning in and dancing to their much anticipated debut release.

Highly anticipated Fjokra EP ‘Thoughtsteps’ arrives June 9th

Versatile Irish songwriter looks to build on a growing reputation with brand new release

Influenced by a list of genres and artists taking in classical, metal, funk, jazz and more, Fjokra is an artist who is nigh on impossible to pigeonhole.

Born in Dublin and now living in London, he is a multi-instrumentalist whose music takes in so many different ideas and angles that to tie him down to one genre or style is a fool’s errand – just as it seems you have his sound sussed, a new idea will come and slap you in the face. And that’s just the way Fjokra likes it.

You can see the video for EP track ‘Infinite Loops’ here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5FrW1UyVyY

‘Thoughtsteps’ is an EP that tantalises and astounds. With the album name, artwork and musical content designed to demonstrate alternative, free and independent forms of thinking, the varied style is all tied together by the consistent high quality of the recordings. Even more impressively, the EP is primarily self-produced but for one track from producer Donald Clark (Guns ‘n’ Roses, Muse).

It’s little wonder that Fjokra counts Mick Jones (The Clash), Duran Duran, and Beardyman amongst his fans – and this range of musicians gives you a glimpse into the wide audience demographics the music is connecting with. Peanut Baines of the Kaiser Chiefs put it his own way, labelling Fjokra ‘sex music for metallers’.

With a fan base that is widening thanks to a unique live show (performed with his eponymous band), Fjokra has already graced the stage at Beach Break Festival and Liverpool Sound City. They also performed at a very special concert which saw Tyondai Braxton (of Battles) premiere his new orchestral piece ‘Central Market’ – a truly inspiring experience for the band. And now, with ‘Thoughtsteps’ only a few weeks away and a slot at the Isle of Wight Festival this summer, he is using that inspiration to fuel his forward momentum.

And if you’re still not convinced that this is an artist with a unique approach, then perhaps his unusual approach to promoting the EP will help. In addition to releasing the songs and music videos, Fjokra has also recorded for each track a cookery show, punning on the song titles from the EP. Due to be posted on YouTube and fjokra.com shortly after the songs themselves are released, the tasty teasers will make this EP a truly multi-sensory experience.

Also, keep your eyes peeled for acoustic versions of the EP tracks, recorded in a guitar shop and due on the Fjokra YouTube channel soon.

‘Thoughtsteps’ will be available from June 9th.
